We are a group of retired women and men who meet each week to practise playing tunes on hand-bells.
Several years ago we managed to raise enough money to buy some second-hand bells and have been able to add to them gradually, so we now have a set which covers an octave and a half with four extras to give us a greater range. We use number notation rather than music notation, and can play a varied selection of music-hall and folk songs, some classical pieces and sea shanties and other old favourites.
At Christmas time we are in great demand to play carols and Christmas songs and we provide song books so that the audience can enjoy singing along with us!
We have always aimed to raise money for charity when playing concerts or demonstrations, asking for a donation each time, and since we started we have handed over £20,000 to Michael Sobell House in Northwood. See us in the Michael Sobell Hospice news here https://www.michaelsobellhospice.co.uk/news/ruislip-belles-and-beaux-bell-ringing-winners/
See more about our special charity below.
Recently we have extended our range to ring tower bell methods (These are similar to what you would
hear from Church bells), which may be suitable for weddings. Certainly something different!
We can ring for Nursing Homes, Libraries, Stores, Sheltered Housing, Clubs and societies, Social occasions,
Wedding receptions, Birthday parties etc.
Please contact the organiser, Sue Warr, on 018956 30097 to arrange a visit.
